Intercambio Espaņa was made as a university graduation project by Joost Puite (in Dutch), New Media student at the University of Amsterdam. I created this site because I found that many people in Madrid (where I spent a year doing an Erasmus program at Universidad Autonoma de Madrid) are looking for intercambios.

Because posting flyers on phone booths is not the most practical way to go I thought this might be an interesting idea for a site. A few months later intercambio-es.com has hundreds of registered users, mainly in Barcelona and Madrid.

In my humble opinion the site offers some interesting advantages over existing sites. You can search with different preferences like age group/days you might prefer and gender.
On other sites I've seen it doesn't work like this.And offcourse it's free. Recently someone suggested I should do the same for London and New York. As yet these are not as large as the Spanish version but because these are such huge multi-ethnic cities I suspect it will only be a matter of time before they start growing too.
